CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Katie Holt ( or just Pidge, that's also very fine )
Age: 16
Canon: Voltron: Legendary Defender
World Description: VLD Wiki
History: Another handy Wiki link
Death: There is a part during The Lions' Pride, Part 2 in which the Paladins realize the giant robot they've been fighting is going to detonate and destroy … well, pretty much everything. They take it out into space where it will hopefully not cause as much damage, and instead of making it out of the blast alive as in canon, this is where she dies.
What are your plans for this character in-game? I don't have anything concrete in mind, to be sure, other than getting a feel for how she'll handle herself in a setting that is more horror than it is anything else; she's been in sketchy situations before, but never for very long, and I would really like to see how she handles Beacon! Also existential crisis about whether or not she and the other Paladins actually saved Earth because she's not there to actually see it for herself. Cue literally every kind of anxiety and dread that has ever existed.
What aspects of this game and/or its setting are you most interested in having this character engage with? All of it, honestly, because horror games are kind of my jam, and playing a character that doesn't already come from a horror-based or even horror-adjacent canon means figuring out how she'll act and react to certain situations, certain experiences. The exploration aspect in and of itself appeals greatly to me, because Pidge is naturally a very curious person and she's pretty fearless when it comes to that sort of thing, which means that's like. A prime opportunity for her to end up in over her head and either make some questionable decisions or need some assistance in getting out of it.
How does your character generally get along with other people? She's! She's not unfriendly, that's for sure, but she's generally more of an introvert until she really gets to know someone, or feels like she can be comfortable around them from the very beginning. She tends to use her wit and sarcasm as methods of deflection when it comes to like … getting into in-depth conversations about herself or anything personal, but she'll never be outright rude ( on purpose, usually, most of the things that end up perceived as rudeness are a product of foot-in-mouth syndrome, and it's something she kind of can't turn off at will ). She likes to laugh, and she likes to joke around, but she's just a little bit closed-off when she first meets someone. That's what it boils down to.
What is your character's mental state upon entering the game? Anxious, for the most part, because she has no idea if the combined efforts of the Paladins to detonate their robot friend in space actually worked and saved Earth from being catastrophically destroyed. There's going to be some sadness there, too, because she'd just gotten her family back upon the return to Earth before everything went down, and she'll worry that they'll mourn her instead of moving forward with whatever needs doing. Honestly, though, she'll take being dead a whole hell of a lot better than one would expect of a teenager — and she'll be more curious about checking out her new surroundings than anything else, and distractions are always good for anxiety, don'tcha know.
Skills/Abilities: She's human, no canon supernatural abilities but she does have a particular set of skills that make her useful in a myriad ways:
+ pilot of the Green Lion, which is pretty cool when you think about being able to drive a giant robot cat around space
+ hacker extraordinaire, with the ability to pick up on even alien tech rather quickly
+ incredibly intelligent in general, coming from a nerdy family background
+ good in hand-to-hand combat, close-quarters, that sort of thing; possibly due to her small size and both speed and agility
Flaws/Weaknesses: She's really short, and constantly curses her short arms, and such a small stature means that she isn't particularly strong, even if she's pretty agile. She's an introvert, which means putting her in social situations that require her to participate will make her anxious above all else, and she has a temper that shows itself more often than she'd care to admit. She's not impulsive, but she is pretty sure of herself when it comes to things like science / technology / being a general whizkid, so that makes her cocky, and maybe more at risk of making decisions that could end in failure if she doesn't stop to think them through thoroughly enough.
Oh, and her brother, Matt? Huge weakness. Her family in general could very easily be used against her in any given situation, but having gone so long trying to find Matt after he and their father disappeared during the Kerberos mission, he's definitely at the top of the list of people that qualify. Maybe Hunk, too, because he's her best friend in the whole wide universe.
Personality: First and foremost, Pidge is kind of your stereotypical brainiac child; good with computers, good with technology in general and would much rather spend her free time doing, like, math problems instead of anything that requires social interaction. She likes her science and her numbers and lines of code because they make sense, or she can make sense of them, where people are harder to read, harder to parse out, and generally make her uncomfortable unless she's really gotten to know them. Trust them, as it were.
This leads to the fact that she's a very private person, not just because she'd spent a large chunk of time attempting to pass as a boy at the Garrison ( y'know, to gain access to vital info in order to find her dad and brother ) but because it's just the kind of person she is; she likes her space, generally requires quite a bit of it at any given time and would really rather be locked up in her room playing video games or reading or. Doing literally anything that doesn't involve people. ( Robots are okay. Robots are always okay, and always the sole exception to this rule. )
Now, she might be a private little introvert, but she cares very, very deeply about her friends and her family, and just the people she chooses to keep around her in a very general sense. She's incredibly loyal, maybe because it tends to take quite a bit to earn her trust but once you've got it, you've got it for life unless you do something to royally piss her off or screw over someone else she cares about. And if she sasses you? It just means you've made it into the friendzone. If she doesn't sass you, it means something is terribly, terribly wrong. Maybe she's sick.
She's playful, curious and tenacious perhaps to a fault, often obsessing over one thing or another until she perfects whatever she's working on, or solves whatever problem that places itself in the way of progress. ( That just comes from being a Holt, though, honestly. They're all like that. ) She likes to tinker with things when she's allowed to, maybe sometimes poking her nose where it doesn't belong but that's just the nature of curiosity, or something, isn't it? It's no fun if there's no risk involved! But. That doesn't mean she isn't cautious when it really counts, when it really matters, and she sometimes has a penchant for overthinking very simple things, because a complex mind has a tendency to expect everything else to be complex, too.
