regardless, things like the holidays are always nice to think about, even if neither of them have any of the others to celebrate them with; christmas has always been a large part of her life growing up, and while it makes her smile to know ( to think? since they haven't shown up here? ) everyone is alive and well back home, there's a certain little bit of melancholy mixed in, because. well.

holidays with the holts have always been an ordeal, and it's something else entirely to have to go through one without the rest of her family.

that might just be why she's awake so early; maybe she hasn't slept, maybe she can't sleep any more, but the knock comes to her door and she moves to answer it, that familiar voice soothing something in her that she can't quite put her finger on.
